Montreal Hip Hop Town Hall Conference
The Montreal Hip Hop Town Hall Conference is an important gathering aimed at shedding light as to how mainstream pop culture is diluting hip hop culture and causing it to lose its essence. This event provides a platform for people to come together and take part in a discussion to maintain hip hop’s true authenticity.
The U.S. Mission to Canada Public Affairs Grants Program, which supports activities that promote U.S.-Canada bilateral relations, partially funded this event, as well as Concordia’s Office of Community Engagement.
Youth Stars will be hosting the first annual Montreal Hip Hop Town Hall Conference for Black History Month. The event will feature honorary guest and legendary NWA member, Yella. Doors open at 6 p.m. for networking.
The first discussion will begin at 6:45 p.m. about the Montreal hip hop scene and what we need to do as a city to gain international respect, featuring panelists Rickey D from Rickey D Events, rapper and artist Nate Husser, and Feezy from Da Main Source Media.
At 8 p.m. there will be an intimate and interactive discussion with Yella about the influence of hip hop on pop culture, as well as the exploitation of hip hop. Malik Shaheed, a long-time hip hop advocate, will be moderating the event.
Registration is free but there is limited space.
